LEAGUE leaders Leadgate Golden Lion were sent crashing out of the Jack Grigg Memorial Trophy at the first round stage by Division Two opposition.

A rejuvenated Annfield Plain Cricket Club slammed four past their high-flying hosts, with Scott Wallace, Colin Thompson, Stephen Kirkbride and Alan Robinson getting on the scoresheet.

In the Consett Charity Cup, Consett Cricketers Ex-Juniors needed penalties to get past Division One rivals Consett No 1 Club.

Goals from Robbie Blemings, Mark Turner and Joe Scrivens for the Ex were cancelled out by Mark Eccles, Keith Coulter and Gary Charlton, but the hosts progressed as 4-2 winners in the shootout.

Meanwhile in the third round, Shotley Cricketers progressed past Burnopfield Sun Celtic courtesy of a 3-2 victory.

A brace from Richard Parkin and a single from Chris Connelly ensured their passage, with two goals from Aaron Robertson not enough for Celtic.

Blackhill FC moved off the bottom of Division Two with a 4-1 success over Consett Top Club.

Stu McKenna netted half of their goals, with Nick Tinkler and Josh Hodgson getting the others, while Scott Goldsmith notched for the Top Club.

A hat-trick from Craig Paley and a double from Adam Barker earned South Moor Sports a tight 5-4 win at Consett Scotch Arms.

For Scotch, Dan Walker scored two, while Lewis Teasdale and Richard Foster also netted.

Pelton Crown and Chester-le-Street Whitehills shared four goals, with Dan Hill and Ryan Warnaby scoring for Pelton and Lee Adams and Stephen Fisher registering for Whitehills.

Stanley RAFA closed the gap at the top of Division Three to four points courtesy of a 6-1 thumping of Consett Demi.

Getting on the scoresheet were Adam Milburn (2), John Carter, Chris Youll, Chris Wallace and Stephen Bone, with Reuben Dodds getting the Demi's consolation.

Also scoring six were their neighbours Stanley Town, who defeated Glendenning Arms 6-2. David Calcott got both goals for Glendenning, but a hat-trick from Brian Phillips, and singles from Chris Phillips, Liam McMahon and Stephen Dover earned Town the points.

Dipton Rovers caused a shock as they beat third-placed Tantobie Commercial 3-0, their goals coming from Tony Gilson, Jamie Parkinson and David Curnick.

Finally, there was more misery piled on bottom club Annfield Plain Plainsman as they lost 4-1 at home to Freemasons Arms. The scorers were unknown.
